If you’re asked to write an admission essay about your favorite work of art, you might want to consider what that has to do with graduate school in the first place. Most people aren’t really ready to deal with the question, but it doesn’t look like it actually makes sense for their graduate school admissions essay writing. Science or business students wouldn’t ever expect to write an admission essay about your favorite work of art, since it doesn’t seem to be normal behavior to them. Psychologists state that art and science go together much more than most people realize, however.
Best Graduate School Admissions Essay Tips
It’s easy to get carried away when writing a graduate school admission essay and try to link everything directly to your major. You really don’t need to do this when writing a graduate school personal statement, and it can actually make it look like you’re trying too hard. Admissions experts don’t necessarily like to read papers that are like this. However, art majors might very well want to tie in their coursework with a graduate admission essay. It’s always important to check what the instruction sheets state specifically. That step saves headaches when dealing with more abstract essays.
Graduate School Admission Essay Sample – Essay about Your Favorite Work of Art
You can find art anywhere, and one of my favorite pieces actually comes from a work of reference. The Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia has an excellent set of blueprints used to illustrate the entry on ships. It’s a beautiful depiction of a merchant sailing vessel, but most people would only ever think of it as a blueprint. I know that there’s more to it than that. Perhaps that has something to do with the fact that I look at the world through an engineer’s lens, but I think there’s more to it than that. I think there’s beauty in everything. Some people might call industrial machines ugly, but there’s beauty in them too. Things are made to look a certain way for a certain reason. I can appreciate that, even if it means staring at lines on a page that make out the otherworldly rigging of an otherwise mundane merchant vessel.
